Hand winch is a good reliable bit of kit... but try using it for 4 hours to recover a vehicleThankfully there were 8 of us so we could take turns.
Went for a 4x4 today and was very let down...i hit the Range Road on sugy as i know last time i came home cracked in mud! and had a ball! this time was nothing of the kind...the tracks were all graded so i came back as clean as i left with very little mud on the panels...
But i did get to do my first winch recovery up an approx 40 degree slope...it was a hand winch and we had 2 4x4s to winch, all i can say is...its not really that bad! i wouldn't chose to do it over an electric winch but still did a good job!
Pics to come after Top Gear!

Here are a couple of pictures from the trip nothing really considering i was the one with the camera and there was work which needed to be done as we didnt want to be there are night...
This one is taken from the top of the very slippery and steep clay hill which was stopping us from getting out of the Gully. I didn't like the idea of commiting bothe vehicles to the gully but my mate insisted it would be quicker to get him out of the water as his car was filled with the stuff! so i figured i have the hand winch so we would be able to get out with that if i couldnt drive out...
And a pic of a stranded Vitara...
Oh and if my maths is correct 2 guys and a solid hour of winching is the same ratio as 8 guys and 4 hours of winching...but i am aware that you guys had a much worse situation! I will gladly loose that competition!
