Being in Perth, we are so far away from everywhere- but half the fun is getting there.
I like the idea- an national Landrover rally/jamboree (was national your talking about i hope- didn't read all replies).
Imagine cupplathowsan landies in one small town- and the convoys around the country-----Yeehaw! whens it on.

the plus side of that bigmark is that it would give the jap fourby owners something to wonder at !!!
I think we will have to have a run from the west coast hwy to the hills and back at some point so all us isolated aulrions can say gday might get something together when i get the defender on the road again

What about ularu ????? now that is slightly better for anyone in the N.T. but everyone else would be screwed fairly even like hahaha

If centralisation for travel is important......
If you want a town thats not too big, not too small....
If you want community support for the event......
If you want a town that can lend itself to good 4x4 adventures beyond.....
If you want a place of interest......
If you want a town that could meet any expanding number increases....
THEN....may I suggest BROKEN HILL as the perfect venue for an annual event of this type.
The Broken Hill Racecourse would be the perfect venue (providing the Race Club Committee was in agreement) with all facilities available there.
If the racecourse is not favourable then there is fabulous central venue at their showgrounds which has pavillions etc and one of the local service clubs would probably be interested in catering etc.
Apart from that the little town has great tourist backup with heaps of clubs and pubs.
I've been around a bit and I cannot think of a better venue for a national event such as we are talking about here.
To get there, its all bitumen cruising and from there the dirt options are endless.
And lastly....I'm deadset sure the Broken Hill City Council and its supporting organisations would leap at the opportunity to support this event on an annual basis.

Broken hill would be good to, abit closer to people in Perth etc
But if your looking for a town that doesn't have these sought of events yearly, broken hill already has the ''outback challenge held there
Aparrently it brings alot of money into the town each year
