Are Landies just not up to it or Do they put Yotas and Nissans to shame?

A mate sent me some 4WD action DVDs ( he must subscribe to it)
I watched the DVDs and noticed that on bush trips, they often have a Standard Disco tagging along.
They seem to be biased to the Yota and Nissans, zooks showing them ripping through the bush, over rock ledges, difficult climbs etc.
After all the bravado displayed by the jap stuff , you see a glimpse of the Disco there.
So my way of thinking is, if the Disco is there on location it MUST have climbed, bashed etc it's way to the location, yet they show very little of the Landy doing it's stuff.
OR.... Did the Disco do it so much easier in Standard form that they were embarrassed to show footagein fear of belittling the Jap stuff.

May be it's Advertising..... For the the mods, 5" lift, Tractor tyres , rock crawler gears that are on the Jap stuff that has to sell, and a Std Disco would not pay

After seeing what V8Landies disco can do and what mine can do they are a very capable machine . The disco probably showed them up and didn't want to show it . I may have a lot of trouble with my disco but i can't say enough good things about how it performs out in the bush .

4WD action have a few Rovers in their stables... The disco you speak of may be one of them I think. The mag is aimed at mass markets.... Only have to look around us and there is far more other rivals compared to Rovers

It's the recovery vehicleI find that 3/5 of those CDs don't play, same with the Roadrider ones
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I think that says a lot the mag is aimed at the audience, in reality land rovers make up a minuscule part of the 4WD market. (only the discerning have them ). Not everyone (including, I would say, some writers) know how capable they are out of the box.

I think you might find that the owner of the said Disco is actually the camera operator and therefore he is usually holding the camera and can't film himself driving. We did a drive recently at Ourimbah and 4WD Action came along to do a story about D3 compaired to a modded D2. It turns out one of our forum members is their camera man and he is the Disco owner.

You can see some of the video footage they took in the Ourimbah NSW trip report.

got to love that bit of video ash.................the biggest problem with the cruisers I think is their weight on stuff like that, all the cruiser owners bang all this gear on the car, the car is heavy to start with. its all right crapping on you got a big engine but when the poor engine has to pull around 3 ton doesn't make it very capable on stuff like that.

Ash you should of taken another video towing it up to prove a point
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

The mag is is business, and like many business they aim at the market segment that will buy their stuff. So yotas, pootrols and suzukis are always shown.

The last vid I saw had the 4wwd crew do a night run, and yep, Boxers disco had a bout 2 seconds of show whilst they flogged the other makes. As for the fact that Boxer does the filming, I think its BS. ANyone can hold a camera for more than 2 seconds, its just another form a biased journalism. This is why I dont buy or subscribe to the mag.
