It's now the 16th of the month and we managed to get a couple of hours of sunshine (read humidifier) out this morning and even a patch of blue sky before - you guessed - it started raining again. Had over 400mm since the 1st May Apparently the wettest May on record prior to this is 220mm.

It's about time you changed the thread title to:

It's still not raining here. No significant rain (two falls of 1mm) since 12th April. Getting very dusty.

We arrived in Gapuwiyak at lunchtime last Thursday and the track was dry until we got to the turn off, about 190ks. west of Gove. It rained on and off all day Friday and today it has been sunny and warm - apart from a little drizzle about an hour ago.

The track wasn't too bad - we've seen it a lot worse -it just needs care at the dips and causeways and creek crossings as a lot of the concrete causeways have been badly washed out and have severe craters in them! It is very overgrown in some areas, with the small shrubs covering the track leaving only a "single" track rather than the usual double. The grader teams are at Rocky Bottom Creek but have not done any work as yet.

The Goyder was just under 1 meter deep and not a problem ( Erich made me walk through with the camera before he drove through, and the fact that I didn't get knocked over shows that it wasn't flowing too fast!). It took us just under 5 hours to get from our overnight camp at the Mainoru River to Gapuwiyak which wasn't too bad.

For a bit of local info. the Mainoru Store was closed and it looks like its been deserted for quite some time, so for anyone using the track it might be a good idea to make some enquiries if you need fuel en route as Bullman isn't always open.

Now we are hoping the tides are favourable enough to be able to get out for a bit of fishing in the next week or so before we head back to cold old Sydney.

    Cheers,
    Erich & Sheila
