RivNuts - Brilliant

rivnuts are a terrific jigger invented by mr goodrich or goodyear [always get these two mixed up] for attaching de ice boots to wing leading edges,
and yep the worst thing you can do to aluminium is attach it to stainless, apart from pouring mercury on it.
old rivnuts and incorrect fasteners can be a pain, but that's why god invented chisels and drills.
rivnits are definatly the best, however i speak in aircraft terms, so others may have experience with other fasteners.

I need to attach a ladder to the D2, but haven't got a rivnut or nutsert tool.
Anyone in SEQ with one,or any other ideas how to attach the ladder?

(Two holes go on the rear door and two on the top of the door frame.)

I can get my hands on a Nutsert tool from work. Let me know if you need it.

The proper tool is nice but not absolutely neccessary. You can use a nut & bolt to compress them.

We've just dicovered RivNuts at my work and now use all different sizes for everything.

We were pounding in root nuts with a hammer and piece of steel :o Sounds very 19th century doesn't it :D

I've got one that you can use. (Depending on the size you need)

Am also a late comer to discovering the wonders of "rivnuts". Found that a touch of loctite bearing retainer under the flange part just prior to collapsing the rivnut works wonders for retention.

Noted earlier comments re dissimilar metals... good advice above re. visiting a marine chandlers and obtaining a tube of insulating material...stuff resembles blue grease. Works a treat in preventing galvanic action between stainless pop rivets and aluminium in saltwater environment... lasts for years literally or in such cases it's probably "litorally" :angel::eek::p
