    The Girlfriends.........................

Palmer river crossing on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

First river crossing, across the palmer river just outside Maytown. We travelled down the old coach road from Laura to Maytown and camped there for a couple of nights (2/3/4 May). The river crossing i can cope with but she managed to catch 2 decent sized fish for tea, i didnt catch a thing!!! I`m worried now because she says that she enjoyed it

Did she scale, clean and cook the fish for you? If so you have nothing to worry about.

The creek crossing is approx 7/8kms south of Maytown, as you drive down towards the creek take a right turn and drive straight on for about 4/500 metres. its a little bit quieter as quiet a few camp close to the crossing.

Are you able to access this from both ends, the bourke Development Rd as well as from the Peninsular Development Rd from Lakefield and travel from one end to the other.

And will camper trailers fit in the camping area you stayed at.

Part of the road now passes through private property and there are reports that the new owner has stopped access, hence my question, we keep getting conflicting reports so I was hoping they would know.

I read your report very good read with great pics, I would assume things have changed a great deal.

The part that passes through private property is fine if you keep to the track and look for the signs (rusty tin lids nailed to trees) the land/lease holder was getting very annoyed at people trying to take a different track, mainly when going North to south. We heard rumours that he chained an old landcruiser across the track, but there`s been nothing there the last couple of times we`ve been down.

I dont know if you can get through from the burke development road as we enter/exit at white creek road which is 20kms south of the palmer roadhouse or up at Laura, camper trailer will certainly fit at the camp area that we stayed at............hope this is of some help Redback
