Hi there
Its a good weekend - but has changed over the years to a giant drink fest.............almost a larger version of a B & S Ball.
You definatly see some sights.............

A bit off topic I know!
Was talking to Mrs Yorkshire_Jon last night about when Leeds & I were in Birdsville last November and how there's not much there apart from the start of the Simpson and for 2 days a year a massive horse racing thing.
Got me wondering if anyone from here goes or has been? Do you take the Landy?
Regards,
Jon

I havent been to the races because I dont like crowds or yobbo's,
thats the reason I havent been to Fraser Island.
I prefer Cape Palmeston and I love the Simpson and I would take my Landy anywhere, Mate.
Cheers.
As long as you go for the atmosphere and aren't looking for "proper" racing you'll have a good time.
We camped out of town on the banks of a very nice river (the Diamantina I think it was), and yes, there were a lot of yobbos there and a lot of drinking but a most interesting 2 or 3 days.
Not sure if they still have it, but there was a boxing ring tent and if you were brave (or drunk/stupid) you could have a go against a boxer. Entertaining and sad all at the same time![]()
Lets see if i can remember................Brophy's boxing tent and the usual plastered ringers getting flogged around the ring before old mate out the back gives em a tap with the 2 x 4 through the tent wall
Hundreds of blind drunk fools at the pub and running up the centre street tipping over the porta potties much to the surprise of users of the same.
Drunks setting fires in the long grass and then falling into the boiling hot water spring.
A tent city and nowhere to sleep but where you fall down.
Its a once in a lifetime thing and ive been there done that and i dont think i would go back for the races. Beautiful place though.
Sounds like its an eventful weekend, perhaps more for a lads weekend away rather than a nice little trip away with the mrs!
Must admit I thought the place was excellent when it was its normal sleepy self, back in November - after a few long days driving I could have spent all afternoon and night in the pub. In fact I think we did spend all afternoon in there!! I liked the campsite by the river too - the light just before sun-down casting the shadows over the water was definately something to remember.
Regards,
Jon
Me and some mates are going next time, going to take dads plane!![]()
