, and they needed softening up and lubricating. Oil for cork and kero for paper was the go. Manilla folders make great gaskets when your'e in a fix. As far as............."& gaskets which have expanded due to excessive moisture need to be put in a warm place around 65-95 degrees" ........, if the gaskets that stuffed toss it and get a new one. The only damp place you'll find in an engine is the cooling system and it generally use paper gaskets anyway, easily replaceable. Don't get into the habit of using "Silastic" as a replacement, radiator repairers will hate you as it clogs the radiator tubes and causes the engine to overheat and is a bugger to clean out. On the other hand the Dealerships will love you as they can sell the customer a new radiator at vast profit.
