Yep, the big hill, old tollbar over Toowoomba Range. Broken many axles, driveshafts etc., treated with respect by smart operators.
A mate's old man followed an old petrol powered White in a cable braked Vauxhall up the tollbar back in the late 50s. There were no passing opportunities, and from his position, 4' behind the trailer he could see the driver standing on the running board, with only his left leg and arm in the cab. They both stopped at the head of the range and Mick approached the driver asking him if it got to hot in the cab. The driver replyed that it did get rather warmish but the reason for his driving position was that the truck was in bottom gear, accelerator flat to the floor with the engine labouring to the max, any hicough and he was ready to bail and wach his truck race backwards down the range.:o:D
