Down south Brisbane here there is a new patrol with lift and muds, bar full of lights, etc.

Well tinted too! rather tricky, they replaced one 'foglight' with the camera flash.

    Make a complaint about it.

Foglights must be mounted in pairs, no less than 600mm apart.

To be brutally honest, I am more supportive of this style of policing than a $#%&** speed camera!!
Getting pulled over immediately jolts most people and the surrounding drivers by orders of magnitude.
The adds that ran in Qld ~10 years ago upon the widespread introduction of cameras went something like this:
Driver speeding and being reckless, results in a fatal crash (not accident, no such thing!).
Period of time later the driver is pictured with a destroyed life, guilt over killing, etc. receives his little piccy in the mail dated The Morning Of The Crash. It all comes flooding back, Cue: stern message.

Am I the only one who sees this as an admission that cameras only minimally affect the road toll?
    Case in point.
Around the same time I received my own piccy (and a summons in 3 days time) in the post from Tassie, 2 months after returning from there. If I was a 'Speedster', what could I have done in the interveening time? How many accidents could I have caused?

For the cost of 1 camera and supporting system, we could have 3-4 more crews lurking out there to nip things in the bud.
    Bring it on, I say!

    /end rant
    Dave.
PS .My infringement was cleared, the zone had been upgraded and records didn't reflect this. Halo intact
Basically.. it's one of the very few taxes that the state government have available to them. The amount of money involved is mind boggling (it's much bigger than they are letting on), and unless you can come up with an alternate business plan so they can get the money some other way this type of "policing" is here to stay.

IMHO policing of excessive speed should be a part of a balanced road safety strategy whereas currently it is the strategy. It has made little or no difference to the road toll. The massive increase in automotive safety systems is the only reason the toll hasn't increased in line with population growth.

Hope they crushed his car. Someone with so little self control isnt mentally ready to handly 2T of moving mass on the road.

Quite surprised this morning. Travelling along General Holmes Drive Mascot then onto the Southern Cross Drive (Eastern Distributor) in whats now lane three sitting behind a van. In lane one comes a Land Cruiser 100 series (I think), metalic grey-gold coloured paint, ARB bar and roofrack doing about 10 clicks over the speed limit. Up behind him comes a grey 5 series BMW doing about 20 to 30 clicks over the limit, squeezes between the LC and a ute in lane 2 and he's gone still doing 20 to 30 clicks over. This then signals for everyone, utes, cars, vans etc to up the limit by about 10 clicks.

Travelling alongside the East Lakes Golf Club, the L/C and Beemer are off in the distance.

Get to the end of the Southern Cross Drive at the Link Road Rosebery exit, and on the verge is the L/C with it's red and blue strobe lamps flashing with the overall clad, full bat belted Police officer at the Beemer driver's window.

Good to see a Beemer get what's coming to it! The 100 Series with roof rack etc surprised me though.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

So let me get this straight... The unmarked, 100 series police Land Cruiser was exceeding the speed limit - without warning lights or siren - before commencing pursuit of the BMW? There's something fundamentally wrong about police vehicles, especially unmarked ones, breaking the road laws. Surely there's some reporting system for when the police themselves fail to obey the road rules without lights & sirens to warn other motorists. What if that Cruiser had collected another motorist before it flicked on the lights to chase down the BMW? There would be hell to pay if it was found to be exceeding the speed limit.

The Land Cruiser would probably be one of the SOG trucks.

If you looked closer at the rear bumper you would probably have seen that it had a steel step built on to it.

I don't mind cops doing 10km/h over, because they probably don't mind others doing it when reasonable.

This is the good things about cops Vs cameras. The cop in this case was happy to give an inch and leave alone the other cars safely doing slightly overspeed - the BMW driver however decided to take a mile and was being a moron, so copped it in full.

    Fair call I say.
