WTF a Stat write off 95 defender went for $4500

Guys, i was eyeing off a 95 defender that had been in the Black saturday fires.
Its rear was burnt, interior guttered and underneith guttered...

I stopped bidding at $3700 and it went for over $4500

a TDI engine with over 200k on the clock is not worth more than $2500
    Box and transfer $1000.....

So what else is worth cash if its burnt.....

Are Defenders going up in price, or was there several idiots wanting it more than me......

Having said that, i'm thinking of wrecking the tdi disco i have.... might just keep the rangie pig..

If it is the Defender I was watching, last price I saw was $2200.00 on it, I am surprised it went for so much.
I am with you Sclarke, there would not be much more to salvage from it besides the engine, gearbox and diffs. My only concern is if it has had that much heat to it all the rubber seals would be buggered in it, including internally, and how much distrotion has been caused from the heat? All engine hoses would probably be buggered too.

People get excited on the bidding and want to win regardless of cost esp if they are new to auction sites. Stupidity rules supreme most of the time. I have been looking for a flat bed trailer and the prices arent cheaper than buying new most of the time.
As for recovering costs I doubt that unless there was a specific need for a rebuild or crash repair then its not clever.
Hey Clarke, are you thinking of selling the County now people are going crazy, what is the Tdi like?
    Cheers

How were the panels? This is where wreckers make their money. Everything else is a bonus.

Rear quarter was burnt, rest was ok....

it was still way to high, even AMV and ritters laughed at the price someone payed...

Remembering it was a Stat Write off..... Never to be put on the road again...
