Totally irrelevant. No woodchips have ever been produced from the Pilliga - it has produced sawn timber, sleepers and posts for the last hundred years on a sustainable basis, with small local mills and individual sleeper cutters. The loss this year by State forests will be at least in part because they have lost the income from the Pilliga forests. Most of the Pilliga is forests that have grown up since European settlement, mainly as a result of fire suppression.

I think a few of you have lost the plot, I don’t give a rats A about whether we cut this tree down or leave that tree alone.

My original posts was about the lies we are being feed and how a large group of people are getting rich and making themselves famous by perpetuating these lies.

Should we stop polluting the planet, of course we should, but even if we stopped every form of pollution tomorrow the planet is still going to heat up and I have yet to see any genuine evidence that what we as humans have done or are doing is going to make one scrap of difference.

The previous New Zealand Prime Minister once told a reporter ( words to the effect ) that she was feed up with hearing about doomsday and instead of pointing fingers, she said it was about time we turned our attentions to looking for solutions to the unavoidable problems that were going to come with the rise in temperature.

In other words, it’s about time we stopped pretending we can prevent the unavoidable and got on with preparing for what is going to come.

John, when was the last railway wooden sleeper produced, 30+ years ago, State forests are a drain on resources and revenue, it would be cheaper to let the Japs come and mine the trees themselves at no charge. Why don't you ask the sawmillers up and down the coast who sent them to the wall, woodchipping did, NOT NPWS, Regards Frank.

Last railway wooden sleeper produced in this area was in 2004 -5, immediately before scrapping the forest (hardly 30 years!). I cannot speak for the coastal area, but I suggest that assuming what applies on the coast is not necessarily what applies inland. I am not qualified to make any comments about coastal forestry, but I do know what happened locally, and as I stated, the boom in green and tourism jobs forecast to replace jobs lost in the timber industry simply has not happened. The sawmillers round here have shut their doors because NPWS has taken over their supply of logs.

My comment was merely to suggest that forecasts that "green" jobs would replace jobs lost has in the past proved to be inaccurate, which does not give one great faith in the current such forecasts being any more accurate.

I think the question needs to be phrased thus:

1 Is human activities actively contributing to the global warming?
2 Can the human race reduce the level of consumerism?
3 should humans reduce the level of consumerism?

1 What amuses me is that the proponents to global warming cite computer modeling and can accurately give data regarding how much the globe will warm in the coming years - these are the same computers that CANNOT tell us when a cyclone is going to form, when the el nino effect is going to hit, how long it is going to last etc etc. Sorry but the premise that global warming caused by humans is based on inaccurate evidence.

We are using finite resouces at an alarming rate so the message about using less is a noble cause, unfortunately the the real message has been lost with all the clap trap about global warming caused by humans.

To me it is a bit like "the end is nigh" or "repent god or will smit you down"
I think it is hysteria led scam promoted by vested interests to keep money rolling to their pockets.

Thats my 2 cents worth anyway. Right or wrong I will never know because I am not going to live for another 1000 or so years to find out.

Global warming iscaused by governments cutting down all the forests to sell as wood chip to Japan, in order to stop Landrover owner going off roading in the forests. See the forests adsorb the Carbon di-oxide and give out oxygen.
The amount of carbon in this world has not changed sice the days of Adam & Eve. But it has shifted to other places. A lot is locked up in coal, etc. but we still have all the same carbon we have had since the world came into existance.

Seriously If global warming is true we are in for big trouble. I have a tape of a world bank spokesperson saying global warming will enrich them, as they will be able to sell all the useless land that is now under ice for agricultural persuits. Trouble is under the permafrost ice is thousands of feet deep of muck [vegetation, Mathoth bodies, etc. which will rot and taint the air, releasing much more CO2, if it ever thaws out.] that is realality that Scientists have known about for years. That most of this world's CO2 is under the ice in this deep muck is unknown to most people.

I ahven;t read the whole thread but YES WE ARE BEING CONNED. ('cept not me I don;t beleive a word of it) !
