Not always true. I saw a datsun 1200 (with a 1400 motor) beat a commodore V8 by a country mile when they raced head to head on the super special stage track during the last Perth WRC.

6cyl falcons and commodores beat V8 equivalents on rally tracks...

Yes but again its power to weight, fit a more powerful v8 and then see.

Im not sure how a 6 would beat an 8 if it was equivalent in body size?
v8's do it longer they dont need to rev as hard as a 6 cylinder or 4.I just come back from the winter nationals guess what the fastest was lol.You dont get a million miles out of a 4 cylinder.

    Cheers Mat.

On a rally track it is all about cornering ability. I think the 6's have a slightly better weight balance.

Don't you??? I have personally seen subaru 4cyls with 0.5 mil miles that are still going strong. I expect my 4!!!BD1(T) to do the best part of a million. DaveS was telling me today that he knows of volvo 4cyls that have 500k+ on the clock with no issues.

Shhhhhhh Dont tell them... then my stocks will dry up....

Funny how in my 20 odd years of driving i have had a few Ovlov's and a few of them have done over 500,000km

the B21 is the best engine ever built by volvo.... its strong and reliable...
The last 240 i had was a 1993 245, with 480k on the clock. Used no oil between changes at 10k intervals and still got 10l/100km economy.

Volvo's have been Rally cars since the 50's and they make a great race car. Strong, reliable and cheap to get parts for.
typlical 140 or 240 weigh about 1350kg and the B20E produces about 125HP i think, B23E about 145hp..... they are not fast cars, but hell they are fun...
I used to have an Ex 1979 Round Aust Volvo, the engine was very worked and at 9000rpm it sounded like a bike engine.... many times in top gear at 8000rpm... you thought it would take off...

I was slightly tempted to but a 242GT today...
