Well, I was young !!!!
My 3rd Landy was a ripper, 1981. I was about to go back to Alice Springs and the 'new' Patrol was about to be released. But I saw this Rangy and that was it:cool: It was a 1973 but had a new 'Terrier' 4.4 V8 , Recaro seats, under dash A/C and Fairy Overdrive. All it needed was Old Man Emu shocks and springs and it was perfect :p Should've kept that one as well :(

firstly, these are not my photos - they come from the collection of the Port Hedland Historical Society, and were taken by Tom Herzfeld between 1959 and 1962.
This little town sure has changed a lot since then - hard to believe it was once so pretty.

LWB series 1 in front of the Esplanade Hotel
and my favourite. Tom very clearly upgraded from the series 1 as soon as he had a chance - this picture almost looks like a deliberately aged marketing image, and that's why i like it so much. Iconic LR

When i first saw this photo i thought perhaps the Series I had come to an untimely end... until i realised from the strange rear panels and the strange wheelbase that it was a Datsun Patrol... I can only hope the driver escaped unscathed.

Just love this thread - I have always loved Land Rovers because my Grandad used to take me out in his Series 1 which he brought to Australia from India - he was an engineer there after the war.
I don't have any old pics though, :( but if we can all re-read this thread in 25 years time, I can add my "old" Land Rover (circa 2007) pic to this wonderful story.... :D

I think the last photo, of the snoozing ute, is actually a Vangaurd.
V8Ian,I think your right,would it be a phase 3.
I have no intention of standing on my head, on this castor enhanced swivell chair again, just to identify an old banger; next you'll expect me to tell you the brand of tyres.:p:D
Seriously, I am not very up on Vangaurds, but it looks to me to be mid-fifties. They had the same basic engine as the little Fergie tractor.
Ian.
