    Angry mechanics

anyone know any good deisel mechanics in devoport area tassie have started doing my own oil changes greaseing but am looking for good mechanic for other work have been getting my 95 defender serviced by mechanic when i checked the oil about a week after service it was about 5mm above high mark on dipstikwhen i asked how much oil they put in was told about8.3 litres according to the mechanics service manuel i said well the oil dipstick is showing over full he said this is normal until the pump starts pumping through the engine so i came home looked through my service manuel and it said 5.8l +300ml for fuel pump a total of 6.2lt nearly 2ltrs less than the mechanic had put in so i had to drain 2ltrs out now is giving me a good reading luckily she seems to be running ok no damage. sorry to all you good mech out there but there seems to be some shody ones as well

I would have left it in.

Any Landy worth it's salt would have got rid of it on it's own before long anyway.

By the way, what damage were you expecting????

About the most that will happen unless you half fill the block is that it will leak MORE from the rear and front mains.

Has to have a fair bit over full to say hydraulic lock it or have it start running on it's own oil.

Don't bag the mechanic, maybe in his book that is what it said, I've come across a factory manual for a certain well known tractor brand which said the trans took 86 ltrs, rang the dealer to confirm and he said that's what the book said, looking at the area it was going in I didn't think it would fit.

It took just on 53 ltrs to the full mark so I probably could have fit 86 ltrs in if I wanted it coming out of the filler so I ended up with an extra 30 ltrs of Donax TD because of a miss print.

I don't think that was my fault and not the dealers fault, just some shoddy editor who didn't cross check the info properly before printing.

whats the worst that can happen from over filling.

    you destroy the engine.

spun bearings, frothed oil, Oil blow by up into the combustion chamber causing run on....

    nahh nothing worth stressing about.
