    Speeding...excuses?

    Hi all

Was pinged going home the other night. 70 in a 60 zone.....not the point though.

When the officer came around to the drivers window he asked "Was there any reason for you doing this speed?"

    Of course I said "No,"

But it got me thinking later (or rather my wife got me thinking later) what reasons would they take in answer to that question? There must be some dinkum answers why else would they ask ?

So, now I'm asking you all for input, what reasons do you think the average speed-cop would take for you speeding?

    Funny or serious........all welcome

Heres one to start you off:

Guy pulled over by Traffic car. Officer walks to window and asks "Do you realise I've been following you for five kilometres, all of which you speed never once dropped below ninety. Do you have any excuse for your actions?"
The driver replies "You see Officer, my wife ran off with a policeman last week..........I thought you might be bringing her back!"

There were two guys following me and they were both armed. They kept following me as I weaved in and out of traffic at speed.
But now you have pulled me over and informed me that you are Police officers I feel much better.
Thank you. I'll be on my way now.

It is a sneaky way to get an admission, once you have given an excuse for your action it's hard to deny same action.

I never thought of it that way. But it makes perfect sense.

There are excuses that will get you off however!

My favorite one was when we were living in the ACT my little sis fell off her bike and did a fair bit of damage and was bleeding from one of her ears.
So the old man fearing brain damage piled her in the car and took off for the hospital at a great rate of knots.
Half way there a copper started chasing him, when the old man finally pulled over he told the copper to look in the back of the car........ The copper then offered to give him an escort the rest of the way.

In the end it all worked out good, no speeding ticket, no brain damage and even better the sis had her jaw wired shut (it was the only time she has ever stopped talking).

Most coppers ask that question and note it down to be used in any possible court action, so be very careful what you say, because if you contest it, they will have your exact words written down and that may be the bite on the arse you didn't need, Regards Frank.

There was a case in Brisbane a few years ago, where the intercepting cop wrote a ticket out on completion of the escort!

I was coming home from fishing for blackfish one Saturday afternoon and got pulled up at Lane Cove on River Rd.

The cop asked me if there was any reason I was doing 72 in a 60 zone. I told him that the blackfish were on and I lost track of time and when I realised my wife had us booked in for a show in the city and I was going to be late I was rushing to get home.

He must have been a fisho because he asked me how many I caught and then told me to go home and drive within the speed limit.

First and only time I have been let off for speeding.

    Now that's just mean spirited!
I hope that cop got a flat tyre on the way home!

usually if you're not too far over the limit and have a urgent medical reason, they'll let you go
