    Looking to buy my first Land Rover

    Hello ,First time user and thankyou.

    I need some advice ,my wife has decided that she would like a Land Rover Discovery so we can take the dogs places,go camkping/shooting and enjoy the flexibility of a 4wd {currently she drives a mini,my two French Mastiffs squeeze in with her}.I want to start with a second hand one just in case she changes her mind {happens alot}

    My question,i would like to buy an 03/04 but i have been told some story's that some model's have problem's,reliability issue's and have changed owner's many times?

    What should i be looking for when inspecting potential Land Rover's?

    Any advice would be appreciated,thanks

    Petrol, diesel, manual, auto?
    TD5 s had issues with oil pumps, but most should be fixed by now. It's not a major issue to have it checked/rectified post purchase.
    Have it checked over by a competent Land Rover spanner man.

    03/04 would be the one to get. Oil pump issues fixed and the CDL. I would recommend a diesel/auto.

    Get one with a good service history and get the ecu loom checked to make sure there's no oil in it.

    Good luck with the hunt. they're a great truck.

    Here's a relatively unbiased Australian review of what to consider when chosing a Disco, petrol/diesel, etc. Points out the good and the bad. Personally, I'd be more positive about one than the reviewer 'cause I have had such a good run with my (older) Disco.

    Anyway, here's the link: Land Rover Discovery 1991-2004 - www.drive.com.au
