I have had the opportunity to drive H1 military versions and they excel at what they are designed for, that being a platform for a variety of tasks from general duties (which in the military means carrying lots of ammo, water, weapons etc which is all very HEAVY stuff) to ambo, comms and weapons platforms such as TOW missiles etc.
Military H1's are not even registrable in the USA (legally anyway)
Genuine Military H1's would never even go close to meeting our ADR's either.
The H1's are first and foremost a "Truck" with varying carrying capacities up to 2.5 ton.

For all you military types out there who have had to haul around all your webbing, weapons and other kit in a 3/4 ton LR and then had the opportunity to use a H1 you will appreciate how much better a military vehicle it is. And it is no worse in tight areas than a Mog which is a closer comparison.

Some "bozzo" did however decide to "civilianise" the H1's for domestic use but was never a success hence the H2 which is a solid vehicle in its own right but unfortunately has become the object of the "Bling Crowd" and hence morphed into something it was never meant to be.

The H3 and its derivatives (H3A the V8 and H3T etc which never made it here) were purpose built as domestic vehicles and are successful in their own rights.

Comparing a H1 with anything other than a 4x4 truck (ie Mog etc) is comparing oranges with apples.
Now if LR made a defender with a GM Diesel V8 and portal axles which had a 2 ton carrying capacity then the game would be on!

Have to agree with not putting crap on the H1. It does what it is to do, without megga dollars in R&D. The dopy concept of this being a Toorak thing or a Kings Cross cruisers is silly. Watched them go up to High Range here on a narrow bitumen road, tough driving, must stay allert, hope no on comming traffic! The drivers were flat out keeping them on a thin road. Having said that it is still a good vehicle. Perhaps no good for a COY CQ's pushing his way to create A or F. I am talking about the H1 only though!!

H1 only the rest can take the golden rivet!!

The H2 and H3 have only styling in common with the H1 - nothing else. They are simply restyled versions of other GM SUVs.

The H1 will probably have a fantastic resale value in a couple of years - more as a collectors item, what with GMs financial situation!

I think they have already ceased production. And unlikely to resume. There is a possible Chinese buyer for the name, who is expected to continue production of the H2 and H3 in the same US factories using GM as a contractor. I wonder how long that will continue?

The H1 and H2 come with a hand grenade proof flooring... that is always good to know when driving the streets of your local area to pick up the kids or do the shopping

Id be surprised if the H2 did. Humvee and H1 maybe.
