Hi! This is a known problem and there has been substantial discussion on this here. The search function should get you there.

It's no real drama - not in LR terms anyway! Its the brake vacuum pump - the seals go, leaking engine oil. The brakes still work! All you need is top up oil to get you to the dealer - they replace pump with modified version so this won't occur again.

If you go into the defender section you will see there is a thread in the sticky section that has all the recalls and bulletins for the 07 defender onwards. the vacuum pump is in there with the relevant part numbers etc

I must be about the only person with a Puma who hasn't had this done yet. Hope it fails before the warranty runs out (mine is an '07).

One bloke I know has gone through 3!!

Can I get it changed if it is not leaking?

I believe you can get it changed if you express concern or at least thats what I think it says in the bulletin...go have a look

Mine's still the original. Yes you can get it changed, but then the issue is the changed one may go if its not the newest model unit. So I'm working on the theory that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. I did think of carrying a spare, but didn't get around to it.
