Never heard of them got any pics...or are they really that rare![]()
Hello Everyone.
I'm just wondering, does anyone know where one can aquire bog mats from? The ones which are about 6 ft long, 1 1/2 ft wide, have three rows of a circle pattern from one end to the other, has one smooth side and one rough side for tyres to grip into for better traction, the ones which are usually only common with Landrovers. ??? Any one.
The Army used to make highways out of the stuff about 30 odd years ago. They also had clips on them so you could link them one end to the other, and also link them up side to side as well.
They're rare as hen's teeth I can tell you.
ARB doesn't sell them, most 4WD shops don't sell them. I've had a go at looking up some places in England, but still have to keep trying. So, if anyone here knows where to get them from, I'm all ears.
Sincerely,
Matthew

You are describing Marston matting, otherwise known as pierced steel planks. Used in WWII to make airstrips, hard stands, vehicle paths. Thousands of tons of this was used in the Pacific theatre and sold off after the war. I have only seen isolated pieces of this in recent years. Tutt Bryant Industries owned all Commonwealth of Australia scrap in PNG after the war and had so much of this they would only sell in 8 ton minimum lots. Is it still available?
What to you want to achieve? If you are looking for something vehicle born to use as recovery matting, then hall carpet runners or coir runners are good.

Saw some roll up rubber tracks in Anaconda Springwood's 4WD section of all places (next to Ikea) last week. Pretty heavy.
Have Maxtracks made these redundant?
Go the maxtrax, love them
love them even more because I won them in the 4WD Custom Action magazine![]()
