There were three Ferguson tractors that made it to the South Pole, a result of arriving too early, a possible miscalculation by Edmund Hillary who was setting up the resupply depots for Vivian Fuchs who led the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE) of 1955–1959 .
