Oh man, that brings back memories. I have used a 44 full of water, 3 star pickets, a lump of wood and some rope to make a load bank to test a genset. The more water, the more load. Was testing a 40KVA genset and got the sucker close to full load for 15 minutes before the water boiled.:D
On a slightly safer one, there was a giant soda pot starter on the main bucket chain on an old dredge at Yallourn open cut when I was a second year apprentice there. We had to overhaul it as part of the dredge upgrade. The pots were driven up and down by a 3000:1 reduction drive. Fun times.:)
More memories:angel:
We had to help with one in a high rise building in town,a 24hr test before final hand over.Three 16cyl gensets, four turbos on each glowing for 24hrs.I would hate to pay the fuel bill.....The noise in the plant room was unbelievable as well. The biggest genset run i have ever been involved in.The A/C chillers provided most of the load, plus additional water heater tanks for extra load.
Bogan safety gear? Lots of 4WDs in the background...
