When I was in the VRS on Norfolk Island, they wouldn't let me near a rope unless I only climbing or descending (they mainly trained for cliff rescue).

I used to modify my SES lesson plans for Guides and Brownies, we'd build and race wooden chariots. They never realized they were learning knots and lashings.
