Very true, I remember that incident when it was reported.

There was hell to pay for it too.
They had added explosives just to make a better spectacle.

I use the stuff as tools of trade, we generally tell those who want to watch that it is not a spectator sport. Some places we work you can watch safety in special areas.

In this case, the spectators were, if I recall correctly, on the other side of Lake Burley Griffin.

That was a tragedy, there were lots of rumors about why after it happened including one that contractor was not experiences in demolition/implosion work. I don't know if that was true but I'm sure the details would be in Google somewhere.


Like most trades, there are specialties. We work on pressure directed into the ground to break up the rocks so the crushing plants do not have to work as hard, the better we do our job the longer the crushing equipment lasts.


With implosion work, the use things like shaped charged to cut objects in the building strategically to make the building collapse in on itself, whereas, the stuff we use blows outwards indiscriminately if used above ground uncontained.
