well done.
100 players means 1 winner, 99 losers.
99 losers means 99 games.
99. The first two play and then the winner plays the third. That continues through the remaining 97 players.
Alternatively, if everyone plays someone else (ie 50 games to start) then you have 50 winners, then you have 25 games and 25 left. You cant split 25 so you could then do it a number of ways, but in this case lets say 12 games plus the left over player plays one of the winners (so 13 games that round) then you have 6 games, then 3. With the three remaining two play then the winner plays the remaining player.
50+25+12+1+6+3+2=99
Thats why tournaments always have 2^? players eg 32. That becomes 16,8,4,2,1 nice and neat!
Cheers

Ten red socks and ten blue socks are all mixed up in a drawer. The 20 socks are exactly alike except for their colour. The room is in pitch darkness and you want two matching socks. What is the smallest number of socks you must take out of the drawer in order to be certain that you have a pair that match?

OK, I'll come in. This is how my dyslexic brain did it.
When the cat and rabbit are weighed together with the dog there is a difference of 4.
Therefore if the cat and rabbit weigh 10 together, you take away 4 from 10 and half it. This leaves one weighing 3. So the other must weigh 3+4=7.
From here you get cat is 7 and rabbit is 3.

I have printed this off and am going to give it to my 6 year old Asperger's son who has just passed a grade 5 maths test after just starting grade 2. Will post results.
