I have no specific Land Rover experience with your problem, however Volvo pumps get noisey prior to failure. Holly pumps come new from the factory with a loud tick.
i have recently noticed a ticking sound coming from under my 200tdi defender so i had a look underneath to try and locate where the sound was coming from! at first observation it seemed to be coming from around the exhaust somewere so i ran my hand up along the exhaust while it was running to see if there was any leaks but to my suprise i found nothing so there is only one other thing at the back end of the car that has movement while in neutral and that is the fuel system so i put my head under the right hand side back wheel arch and located that the sound was coming from the fuel line from my tankso i traced the line over to the other side of the tank and found that nothing seemed to be leaking but the line was clicking backwards and forwards making a ticking sound
the sound can be herd from inside the cab and varies with amounts of revs and from outside the vehicle people have passed comment of there being a time bomb under the defer
so i was wondering has anyone else had an problems like this or has any input on this subject at all? people have sugested there may be a problem with my lift pump but could there be something else wrong? please dont say the injector pump
