Off on another Snowies trip - Problems already!

I serviced the Disco yesterday in preparation for our annual winter trip to the Snowies beginning today. I changed the oil, flushed/refilled coolant, checked/topped up all other fluids, jacked up each corner to check bearings (all oil fed these days) and brakes, replaced wiper blades, and gave it a bit of a clean out Fingers crossed no major problems for this trip....

The difference between this trip and others is that we're taking my 7yr old son this time , I've convinced his mother that she can actually allow him to be without her for more than 2 days

So we're heading to Dubbo this afternoon (455km), staying overnight in a motel, then going to the western Plains Zoo tomorrow. Then driving the 150km to Bogan Gate (west of Parkes) to visit Tulips' grandparents on Friday night. Early Saturday morning I'll try to get a short pig/goat hunt in before driving the final 390km to Maragle, east of Tumbarumba.

I want to put some more venison in the freezer, so early Sunday morning will no doubt see me in the bush hunting deer. Damien hasn't been to the snow before so we'll drive the 10mins from Tulips' place to the snow line up towards Cabramurra at some stage. The rest of the time will be spent relaxing in the bush (plus maybe some more deer hunting )

Then mid next week we'll head to Tooma, and Tulip's mum's place. We'll hit the ski fields at Selwyn at least once, maybe twice. And then hang out at the dairy farm for a few more days.

Finally we'll retrace our steps and drive back to Bogan Gate for one night, before returning home on Tuesday the 21st.

Well, that's the rough plan anyways

Enjoy the trip! I certainly enjoy the outings with my son (20 months old) and the occasional times my daughter (16yo) comes along.

Well the fun has started Coming into Mallaley I noticed the fan belt squeeking, so I pulled over and checked it but could see nothing wrong so kept going. Then 5km out of Coonabarabran the fan belt started to let go and once I pulled over it was only about 2/3rds of it's original width. I replaced it with a spare and continued on.

After finding that the Ford place in Coona (that used to be a LR dealer) didn't have a replacement belt we continued to Dubbo. 15km out of Coona the spare belt began to split as well When I checked it was running 1 ridge forward on the alternator and had cut off a narrow section on the forward edge of the belt ???? I think there is slightly uneven movement on the harmonic balancer too, but it might just be my imagination.

We got to Dubbo okay and I'll take it into the LR dealership here at 8am to have it diagnosed

Will log on sometime soon to give the verdict.....

Hmmm, If it is a Tdi it sounds like the tensioner has let go or the power steering pump shaft is coming out. Unfortunately this is not all that uncommon
