its thart that conects to the pillar and holds the door shut
You may find a small problem with the door check - I have not taken any measurements, but I am sure it will be easy to modify if necessary. Note that using the Defender door check will probably be a lot more work, but will be necessary as the door is quite a lot heavier than the 2a door.
Also worth noting that the Defender door is a lot thicker than the Series door, and you may find the elbow room is markedly less - when the later door replaces the 1984-86 door, the seats had to be moved in about an inch, and a smaller steering wheel fitted!
But as said, they are a bolt on replacement, just that you have to fit the bits on the door pillar that the lock attaches to (striker plate) as well. You can use either set of hinges, but in my view the 2a hinges are preferred, as the door will not tend to fall shut on level ground, worth considering with the much heavier door.

I have just recentley put defender doors on my s3 trayback. No problems fitting they just bolt straight on. I Did however had to tap the seam where the door rubbber sits and where the lock passes over down a bit, will also need to drill a new hole to fit the striker but is very easy to do.
I must say that if I had a Defender, I may just go BACK to series doors with sliding windows as I have repaired my fair share of rusty, broken, dropped Defender doors that won't unlock or stay closed
AND I'll get more elbow room
