If I'm thinking of the same story, it was shot at the 4WD Training center at Werribee near Melbourne. The property is privately owned by a Landy nut, so it is actually his stash of vehicles. Actually, I was a bit annoyed when they used a shot of the old Landys and said it was where old 4WD's come to die.........they are just hibernating !!!!!!!!!!!Quote:

When we started this thread, it got us thinking about an incident many years ago, when an old “hibernating” Landrover got us out of a lot of trouble.
It happened way back in 1976 when we on a bit of a holiday through the Flinders Ranges, Ayres Rock etc. and up to the Centre and then over to Mt. Isa then Townsville and back home.
Our vehicle at that time was an ex-Electricity Commission Series 2A and it had seen some rough tracks but always brought us home. We purchased new wheels and tyres for the trip and all went OK till we got to Wauchope, south of Tennant Creek where we discovered loose wheel nuts and 2 sheered studs on a front wheel.
I took the hub off and managed to hitch a ride with a truckie into Tennant Creek and got one welded back in and a makeshift bolt for another (No Landrover parts were available). Got another lift back to Wauchope and we were on our way late in the evening. Across the Barkly we went and got as far as the Avon Downs Police Station after many stops and makeshift repairs.
The young Policeman at Avon Downs was a terrific bloke and said before we rang Mt. Isa to organise spares he would check with his Tracker, an Aboriginal chap by the name of George. George told us of an old Landrover across the highway, “not far away”. So, off we went – the Policeman, George and myself, in the Paddy Wagon (Toyota) – heading out into the scrub for about 10 kms. and sure enough, we came upon a poor old Landrover. There wasn’t much left on it, but the wheel hubs were there. I got the required hub off and back at the Station, I put it on our Landrover.
Sheila had stayed back at the Police Station chatting to the wife of the policeman. She was an Asian lady, very nice, but absolutely paranoid about snakes. Three or four times a day, George had to rake the red soil that surrounded their house, and check for snake tracks. Mind you, their house was pretty old and had gaps in the floorboards, so I suppose snakes could have easily got inside.
Anyhow, that hub worked a treat and was still on the Landrover when I sold it years later.
So, yes…old Landrovers are just hibernating, waiting to be re-cycled.:D
