one thing to bare in mind with the Staffy is, at work staffys are notorious for separation anxiety (not all!! but a lot, they're a real people dog)...just something thing to consider. so if you get one make sure you have secure fencing and lots to keep it occupied during the day:)
Staffys are lovely dogs I'm not trying to put you off them...like I said not all but often a lot. strangely enough I haven't seen it so much in the smaller females tends to be larger undesexed males. but that is only an observation.
We have a beautiful white staffy boy at work at the moment that smiles when you ask him too:D He is wonderful. Staffys have great personality. I have a friend that breeds and shows staffys and her dogs are just impeccably behaved.
cattle x's usually make great dogs.....and are as common as anything to be honest mate there is no point sitting on here to pick a breed because I can tell you know you will go with a breed in mind and come out with something totally different from a shelter. just go to the shelter have a look around ask to see a couple of dogs that catch your eye and go by your gut feeling, the staff should be helpful and if they are doing there job right after knowing your circumstances should not let you take a dog that is not going to cope with your type of life style.
Read up on breeds like I suggested so you go with some knowledge ....but as above JUST GO THERE AND SEE WHAT FEELS RIGHT!! if nothing feels right at the time, then its not your time to adopt and perhaps you should go back in a week or two later to see if something does.
on the adoption thing i have posted it but today i adopted a 3yr old siberian husky and the best thing is someone else dealt with her puppy days she is microchipped, vacinated, wormed, desexed and up to date on all injections, when i picked her up this morning she would sit on command now i have her walking at my knee on a slack lead sitting on comand i have got her to stay sitting in one spot for about 3 minutes on comand i have her sitting 2metres away from her food till she is told she can eat, this is just my story but i feel for me it is pure sucess and i would do it agian
I would adopt a dog mate..We have adopted 4 dogs over the years from the RSPCA ...... it's the best feeling knowing you have rescued a soul.
Try these guys....

The next 3 days are going to be very long, now I got to go and get some of the basics like bowls, lead and maybe a toy or two :p
