What is with the Cape Leveque road???

I intend to go to Cape Leveque to pick up the Horizontal Waterfall boat there in a pathetic and unpopular attempt to save money.

The road is listed as not being suitable for trailers or caravans.

Why is that? the Mitchell Falls road was also listed but there was no reason except for the terrible corrugations not to take a camper there.

I am told by the bird at the tour company that the nearest I can camp with the trailer is Chile beach about 30Km from the ECO Resort.
    All input welcome.

You have a camper trailer, right? If so, you will be able to take it all the way to the top - You could even tow a caravan there, but you won't be able to sleep in it anywhere. You can stay in your camper at Kooljaman (I don't think you can actually stay at One Arm Point) apparently the rule is - as long as you have canvas sides it's ok. My off road van has canvas ends and a canvas pop top but apparently still not allowed. They recommend that you don't tow on the road, but there is no stipulation that you can't tow. I have been on the road at the start of the dry last year, just after it opened, and must admit that it was very corrugated and washed out. ATM though, apparently it is very good indeed. You may find it was the guys at the tour company trying to make more money out of you by flying out from Derby instead.

    G'day Phil,

We did the Cape Leveque road last year in our D110 and camper trailer - we had no issues but the there were plenty of rental cars screaming up and down there that you would find later on with issues.

From what I remember the first 100kms to Beagle Bay is unsealed road then from Beagle Bay to the Cape its sealed main road.

Just make sure you book your camp site before you go up there - really recommend the beach shelters at Cape Leveque, just back up to them and set yourself up.

Gee I wish I was up there now!!!

There are only 70k's of dirt road and the tarmac starts at the Beagle Bay turn off.

I spoke with people who went up last week and the road was good.

    Thanks all.
I also spoke to a guy today on the Geikie Gorge trip and Barney from tassie (who has been shadowing me all the way down the GRR) who is also going and looks like cooljaman is the go.
Why the tour company gives misinformation I do not know.

Generally I think that is because they want you to travel with them!!!

Everyone's understanding of a "bad road" is different I guess.
