As for the D2,out of the owners manual is the following.Recomended wading depth 500mm.Also there is a warning that if the vehicle is stationary in water above the door sills, damage to the vehicle may occur.
How ridiculous putting the auto ECU under the passengers seat:(
Could Land Rover engineers find a lower place in the vehicle to put it?
As for the Puma, sure the engineECU is up high in the rear of the engine bay:)
But there is another one under the seat:(
Even my 11 year old Freelander has its ECU higher than the engine and standard air intake and that is close to a meter off the ground. So I think TD5s which were built later should have had their ECUs higher.

... I see a lot of comments about wading depths // in reality, these are designed as cars ... IE: Land transport ... not designed as boats
If you want to wade water ...design it like this ...

..... ^^^^ That should get the "brains trust" motivated^^^^ :)
Rather than sealing the ECU would it be easier to seal the seat box?
I have never bothered to look at this but couldn't a new ECU loom be soldered in and the box relocated to a better position ?
Just curious !
You can shift the position of the ECU without any re-soldering. Take a look at Post #22 on page 2 of this thread. Shifted to the rear bulkhead on the original cables.
