A then workmate backed his boat trailer and old Tojo 4 cylinder diesel hardtop down the ramp at Wellington Point, and started winching the boat onto the trailer. As the weight of the boat came onto the trailer, it lifted the nose of the trailer and the rear of the Toyota. The loss of grip caused the Toyo to start sliding down the greasy ramp. Mate hurriedly ran to the drivers door to do something to find he had automatically locked the door. By the time he did the pockets shuffle for the keys, the rig had slid neatly down the ramp into the water up to the door handles.
Many references after that to U-boats, and optional periscopes for Land Cruisers.
Another mate lives nearby and he reckons if you are bored on a Sunday afternoon, get a six pack and go down to the boat ramp to watch the fights. He says the domestics are the most entertaining. Hubby up to his waist in the water trying to hold the boat against tide and current whilst the lady backs the trailer down the ramp under shouted instruction. Instructions often get louder and more heated as do her responses often resulting in her abandoning the rig and stalking off in a huff to sit at one of the picnic tables.

I was once working at a building site in Peppermint Grove, one of the wealthiest riverside suburbs in Perth and there was a boat ramp just over the road.
It was great watching all of the young kids, just gotten their license, taking daddy's boat for a spin. I think the best one was when someone was backing their dad's ski boat into the water with dad's Jeep (the blinged up two door soft top one (not sure what that's called))
They had gotten the trailer in alright, and then went to drive out but they got the car stuck somehow. Their friend came in with a patrol, with a rope hooked to the front of it. They didn't seem to be able to find a recovery point (or didn't know what that was) so they just hooked it onto the shiny chrome bumper bar. Mr Patrol started to reverse harder and harder but nothing happened. At this stage all of them were just standing on the side of the ramp.
The patrol pulled harder and sure enough, they pulled the bumper right off! There was no one in the car, so with it being unsecured it proceded to roll right into the river! Lots of swearing and that but someone had the forethought to go and put the hand brake on, but at this stage the water was up to the bottom off the doors and when he opened them the car filled up!
We had to go and pull them out with the bobcat in exchange for a carton of beer. The car was not in a very good way after that...full of water and missing its bumper.
