Hair-dryer/heat-gun will not harm the paint, eucalyptus oil will dissolve the glue.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Following all this advice (apart from the belt sander/grinder advice) I have successfully got them off with a heat gun (hair dryer seemed a bit girly) and some white spirits.
Too hot, and they strung like cheese. Too cold and they would tear. But get it just right - and they come off quite easily.
Looks 100% better, I reckon.

Ford and Nissan seemed to specialise in these rather tasteless (to me) decals.
