    Discos everywhere

    Gday All
Just got back from our NSW school holidays jaunt.
Sydney to Bourke (what a really sad place lots of problems up there, such a shame)
Bourke to Tibooburra (what a cool place) rain and roads shut a couple of hours
Tibooburra to Cameron Corner Pub for lunch to Innaminicka via the Bore Track (now that was fun )
Day trip up to Coongie lakes (fantastic)
    Innaminicka to Arkaroola via Strzelecki
    Arkaroola to Menindee
    Minindee to West Wylong
    West Wylong to Rouse Hill

Had a hoot. Innaminica is a great place to visit. Green from Ivanhoe to Great Dividing Range. there will be a good grain crop this year and lots of little roast dinners wandering around green padocks. BUT

Discos everywhere. mostly D2s so wheres this toyota owns the bush bit? Easily out numbered the non toyota 4 x 4 varieties and certainly didnt see any more patrols than LRs. No obvious groups or convoys just lots and lots of Land Rovers.

I know its the but I cant load any photos as I get the white screen of death when I try to load.(happy for any fix suggestions ) I do thoroughly recommemnd if you havent been out there to pack the swag and go visit. Helps the locals too when we spend our moola out there with them.

    cheers
    mat

I know what you mean about D2's but I'd hardly say they are that common. More to the point is the absence of new Land Cruisers and Hilux's except for company ones. Lots of new Prado's but the rest are starting to be replaced by other dual cab utes and Pajero's and Patrol's. I think Toyota is pricing itself out of the traveller's budget.

Not many D3's out in the sticks either and as for Puma's... besides mine I've seen 1 other - and it was the same colour!

Sounds like a terrific trip Mat,

Can't wait to see the pics.... what would you say were the must sees around the corner country?

I am covering some of that country in a longer trip in September.

I can't wait to get out of the city...

    Cheers, Mark

There still were plenty D2 out there, but your absolutely right hardly anything less than 2-3yrs old. Only saw 2 D3s and only remember that as it was 1 at Innaminicka and 1 at Arkaroola and despite being on hols the brain could cope with remembering one ofs

Saw more Mazda dual cabs than Prados, mostly 80 Series and ill be honest I expected to see many many more Patrols.

The road is bitumen on the Qld side up to less than 10km to the boarder and that wont be dirt much longer. There was a hell of a lot of Suby forresters and 2wd pulling on road caravans. That obviously changed as we headed south, but we certainly passed a couple of 2wd with on road caravans when the old strzlecki met with the new coming from Lyndhurst before we headed off south to Arkaroola

    Gday Mark
best part was getting out of Sydney. I was very hesitant to engage the locals cause they all are a friendly bunch and want a chat. Im not the most confident conversationalist. Invariably first question they ask is where your from and you look at the ground, cover you mouth and sort of mumble...err sydney. quickly followed by "Love colour of the ground out here is that iron or manganese causing that pink tinge in those rocks"

Was better when we got to SA or QLD
    ..."where you from"
    ..."NSW"
and the conversation flowed more freely.
Tibooburra is great. Amazing little place. I see your going to Menindee. Sad to see the lakes well empty not just no water but absolutely empty

I really liked Innaminicka. The Cooper Creek waterholes and pulling up setting up camp and just disappearing. Fishing, beer, campfires, beer, great roast lamb, beer, bit of astro photography, lots of bird life (winged version). Coongie lakes is great two. There certainly isnt a shortage of water out there. Im diametrically opposed to greenies but gee we city slickers are crap at water and resource management. lots of private/pastoral leases that make us look very second rate with land management and water utilisation.

I really liked seeing the enjoyment of my 7yo. She had a hoot and when the obligatory Burke and Wills assignment comes home next year she will not only read about it in a book but will be able to load up the assignment with pictures of her actually at the dig tree, at Kings tree and Burkes grave and at Wills grave.

Sitting at sunset listening to the wild life and the dingos...heaps of dingos, more dingos than D2s

I guess you gotta have lunch at the Corner Pub.

If you got kids I hope they enjoy the dog fence and state border post as much as ours little one did. Being in three states simultaneously always seem to be fun no matter how old you are. Bit like that Simpsons episode where Homer jumps in and out of the US embassy front gate
    "im in Australia"
    "Now im in the US"
    "Im in Australia"
Well they got a good giggle when i was jumping around
    "look Im in SA"
    Look now Im in Qld"
Sad I know, but we keep ourselves amused somehow

Like most people we would loved to have done longer, gone further, seen more. we have done Alice (have rellos there) and Wilpena and Maree and that bit in other trips. I think Coober pedy is cool but thats just me. But we are always envious when people get the opportunity to pack up and nick off so I hope you have a great time in you journey.

    cheers
    Mat

Read recently somewhere that LC200 sales are down around 60% on the same time last year.Patrol sales are also down 50%.I think it was in a 4x4 australia mag.

As for those duel cab utes that seem to be the in thing at the moment,my son had one & it was one of the most uncomfortable thing i have been in for a long while.

But maybe i was used to the D2
