    Height at 2 yrs old.

Did anyone else's mother make a note of how tall you were when you were two years old?

When I was a child, it was a commonly held belief/old wive's tale/urban myth or scientific fact, that people grew to be twice the height they were at the age of two.

It was pretty accurate for my four brothers and one sister.

    How about you?

We just had a kiddie and were told the same thing but it was from age 3. Although we asked the paediatrician and he said it was not particularly accurate.

Don't know how tall I was though.

So it didn't work for you?

I have no idea what height I was when I was 2.

    According to standardised percentile charts:

Boys at the 50th percentile at age 2 years should be = 86.75cm
Boys at the 50th percentile at age 3 years should be = 95.25cm
Boys at the 50th percentile at age 18 years should be = 176.25 cm

Girls at the 50th percentile at age 2 years should be = 84.75cm
Girls at the 50th percentile at age 3 years should be = 94.75cm
Girls at the 50th percentile at age 18 years should be = 163.75 cm

    Is that close enough.

The rule is probably correct in "cubits" however!

Although, I'm yet to see a child get to one furlong by the time he is 18 years. Perhaps that's because we measure them standing up and not lying down.

When she was 2.. we were told my daughter will be 6'2" by the health sister.. based on her height at the time...

She is now just 13 and just over 5'10"... It doesn't look like she's slowing down any time soon...

I suppose it won't be long before I have to tell her to sit down before I tell her off...

Your daughter is outside the 97th percentile for girls, however you'll be happy to know that the growth velocity at this age is decelerating rapidly and by 15 years she should be within about 2 cm of her full adult height. Transposing the curve upwards plotting against her current height at 13th birthday, her adult height should be around 182 - 183cm.

Maybe you could consider banning high heels in your house and you can wear platform shoes?
