    Tom Groggin springs to mind.
Edit: some pics from Tom Groggin added. First pic is down stream a little - near the dogmans hut. The other 2 are at the camping area.

Near Cobram is the Cottadidda State Forest ( look it up on Google maps ) on the NSW side of the river.

Very nice spots in there. Plenty of firewood.

    Also the Barooga State Forest.

You need to poke around and find a good spot.

No facilites of course but sounds like you don't need them anyway

There used to be a beautiful council run camping area at Corowa right on the river next to the bridge. Short walk to the boozer.

My favourite spot on the whole river was in front of the pub (common) at Jingellic. Possibly because the water is still pristine that high up, secondly it was an idyllic camp spot and thirdly its where I caught my biggest Murray cod from a kayak.
Check out the tourist info joints at Albury or earlier, there are some great free publications that map the whole river with every camp spot marked on them. Well worth the effort.

Just down from Tom Groggin is a place called Geehi, theres an airstrip there, (probably used once a year maybe), but if you go in there and cross the river, and up the valley,(about 2klms) theres an awesome hut, "Keebles", excellent camping, or the hut if no ones there,,

Along the river between Albury and Swanhill,,,theres plenty of free camping, mostly on the NSW side,, the roads pretty average, but its a nice drive at a steady pace,,
Some quite good places are hidden in behind the gates that say "TSR" (NSW side),, which is a Travelling Stock Reserve. These nearly all have access to the river with some small sandy beaches as the main attraction. Theres two quite good ones between Mulwala and Corowa. Excellent camping,,

As mentioned, behind the pub at Jingellic is a good place too, "wiv lotchs of atmoshfear",,lol,,

If I was still at the families farm just out of Albury, I'd have you out there, but alas, unless you happen to be there when I am,,,sorry,,,but you can PM me about it anyway if you want,,,

I hope some or all of what we come up can help,,Happy travels,,,

    Cheers Chops,,,
