I shoot each week and always steer people towards a .223 or .243 as both are common and factory ammo can be bought for both to suit all the types of game you can hunt.I mostly shoot .303's and 6.5x55's and 30/30 and .44 handgun but all of them are strictly a handloading venture which is too much too soon for a beginner.Like all things you get what you pay for,my choice is always Tikka with a Lynx scope,they are better than Leupold at half the price.With .22's go CZ or Anschutz.You won't get a shooters license in WA without a fixed address.
