Problem on the way back from town

    Not happy this afternoon.

Coming back from town, about 3km from home on a winding bush track, loud bang and started wandering. Stopped and got out - LH back (nearly new) tyre flat. Has a tear 10cm long in the outer sidewall. Walking back along the track, about 20m back, I found a piece of jagged ironbark freshly dug into the surface at 45 degrees pointing back towards town, and the upturned end is blackened with rubber. Grrrrr!!!!

Then the real problem started - loosening the wheel nuts! This tyre had a slow leak repaired by Beaurepaire in Yass about a week ago.............

I eventually got them loose by jumping on the handle of the wheel spanner, but I thought it was going to break. Last time this happened (different tyre repairer) the flat was fortunately at home and I was able to use a 3/4 drive socket and six feet of pipe.

What sort of tyre John? I keep a length of steel pipe in Basil for the same reason, but recently bought a tyre lever with an extension handle that seems to do the job.

The tyre "fitters" di this all the time
It happens to me on the LR and in the Mazda bus. With the Mazda i did not have a hope to loose the nuts!
The problem is that after that you never know for how long the stud is going to hold the torque
