I reckon this solves the problem, for me anyway, as regard to owning
one of these later model Landies.
I hated the thought of bashing around Australia on Hwy type tyres.
They should handle outback travel with gibbers and all the other crap
that would destroy a Hwy jobby.
Put me down for a new Landy in 2010.

A 285/R18 on a D3? Add to the cost of the tyres a Kamar rear wheel carrier for $3000.

If I had a D4 and the time I'll bet I could make a very nice looking
rear bar for under $500 bucks, that would match the TJM front bar.
On the larger size wheels tho for RR etc, what else is there ?
The 4x4 Blokes in the USA gave these tyres a real pizzling in the deserts
and reckon they are pretty good.
I think I would be inclined to try them in the near as possible standard tyre size.

On the D3 the S has 17", the SE has 18" and the HSE 19"(I think). I recently put Scorpion 255/60R18 on mine. I was planning on the Cooper ATR but (I'm led to understand that) anything bigger than a 265 won't fit in the spare wheel well.
Well, I looked up the Landrover website and found that the new D4
will have 17" and 18' wheels but no mention of tyre sizes.
No matter with the 17's, tyres would not be a problem. Beaudy !!
The new Vogue has the 20", again, no mention of tyre sizes, so I
would be inclined to give the new Cooper Zeon's a go.

The D4 comes with 18" on the base model (2.7) and 19" on the others, all with 30" tyres still.
