Thanks so much for your input mate. On your third fuel pipe? that sounds horrible. Is it the same pipe that rubs through? From the photo it looks like the Green colour coded hose. Can you do anything to stop it from chafing? It is so frustrating for me having the car so far away!. like you suggested and what I can see from the photos a brass union such as the one you used could be a temporary fix. Thanks for the offer of your spare! When I get it back I am going to drop the tank to see what can be done.
Regards Robbo.
Do they rub through just to the rear of the fuel filter ,there are a couple of pipes there that rub on a chasis rail?
If not where do they actually rub through...
On my disco, it has rubbed through in the same spot each time. In the attached photo the hole is near the bottom bend (i.e. where the brass union is). The photo shows, (from left to right)
- my ultimate repair by shielding the pipe with a length of slit heater hose.
- The first holed pipe with hole marked by the red circle. (I later cut it to measure the diameter when buying the heater hose).
- The second busted pipe with temporary repair.
I had to drop the fuel tank a bit to be able to get the shielded pipe though, it being a tight fit between the tank and underside of the vehicle body. I am getting pretty good at removing the interior trim to get to the pump access cover by now...:(
Cheers,
Chris
I had to access my fuel pump several times so I cut a flap in the rear carpet with a razor blade. you cannot see it and its almost impossible to lift.removing all the interior is a PITA. I only cut 3 sides of a square so it hinges on the top bit.
G'day Chris.
What size/type union did you use? Brass?. Waiting for a replacement seems a little too much. Looking on a UK site someone has same problem. None available in UK!!!. Backlogged 'til september?!!! What chance have we got here in Australia. Thinkin about catching train down and fixing it myself. Any thoughts?.

We had this problem with one of the Discos on a recent Simpson Desert crossing. No Pirtek shop on the QAA Line so fuel line removed, repaired with two part epoxy, sleeved with a bit of split hose and a few clamps and after allowing to cure overnight, were on our way the next morning. No problems on rest of trip but replaced upon return to Sydney.
