If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I'm not definate, but I would be thinking up the Birdsville track unless Walkers crossing is open from Innamincka.

firstly I checked all my maps there is no BRIDSVILLE listed--now smartarse comment is out the way!! (I'll misspell half of this!)
do it properly, broken hill -yunta then either north on the arkaroola road to...well ...arkaroolavia teetulpa and waukaringa goldfields (abandoned) then on from there- incl wilpena pound in trip, and up via either strez track (lotsa corrugations!!) -and innaminka (camp at cullymuurra waterhole-take fishing gear and also vist were burke & wills bought the farm...but king lived...) then across via cordillo downs to b/ville
other way yunta - peterborough, over to orroroo - hawker - leigh creek - lyndhurst (visit talc alf..he's a freak but funny!) stop and check out farina, ghost town...then marree,(home of the MCG...marree cricket ground!) ok to b/ville track (see another thread re clayton station overnight at "the spa"!) then 3 hrs and o/night at mungerannie pub (tracks avail off here to old stations/mission etc..ask at pub) swim in waterhole at pub, check out lagoon etc...
then up to b/ville (@ 3hrs -) its a good road, more like a highway now than 25 years ago when it was a sandy, blown and sandhill moving place!! since they knocked most of the bunnies the plants are back and holding the sandhills together...its a lot better!!!
go to the 'working museum' at b/ville and take one of his tours, its a ripper BUT DONT INTERRUPT OR ASK Q'S OR DELAY UNTIL AFTER THE TOUR!!! he'll have a go at a if you do... ("dont hold all of us up you can come bck and look at that later")
Oh yeah--have a good time!
best of all....enjoy!

I thought he was after the fastest way, but then again the fastest way and the most interesting way are 2 completely different things.

ooops, you are right....
well Oli, bugger the time it takes, make it a holiday and wander there!! you'll have a great time that way and see/meet lots more!
(schedules for holidays are like dinner suits for swimming..look nice but just get in the way of having a good time!)

Probably via Charvelille and Windroah![]()
I would say via Dubbo to Bourke, then either Hungerford or Barringun, to either Thargomindah-Eromanga-Windorah or Barringun-Cunnamulla-Quilpie-Windorah. You can go direct to Quilpie from Cunnamulla using bush roads, or go via Charleville.
