Want TrueTracs. Is the Diff in my 2002 130 a standard 'Rover' diff?

I want to get some prices for front and rear TrueTracs for my 2002 130.

However, when BigJon looked at my car he mentioned that (being an ex-Telstra vehicle) it had the normal rear axle replaced/improved with an uprated "Wolf" axle (or was it an uprated diff.... I can't remember). He said that Telstra had issues with the 130's destroying diffs, so LR replaced them across the board with a stronger diff.

Is this a normal "Rover" type diff? I don't think it's a Salisbury from other pictures I've checked out, but I know not much about diffs.

Anyway, if I post up a couple of pictures of the axle, can anyone tell me if I should be ordering the normal TrueTrac that would fit a standard 130 from 2002, or if I have got something unusual here.

    Pictures of rear diff attached.

    Thanks
    David

I've never seen one of them! But I would guess P38 in a reinforced housing.

David, that is a P38a diff centre, standard issue in 2002 on Defender 110/ 130. Reinforcing looks pretty full on, It just shows what a mistake it was to go away from the salisbury for heavy duty applications IMHO

So looks like I'd be asking for a quote on a front and rear TT for a standard 2002 130, and not mention the uprated axle etc.

Makes it a little tricky if I do a direct import and then it doesn't fit.......

Guess I could always sell it here though

I have just done a quick search David, I think you are out of luck as they only list 10 spline earlt RR/D1, and 24 spline RRC, D1/2, and Sals.

No mention of Defender with P38a differential.

The other option is to jetison the whole shooting match and fit a sals, OR a Disco rear diff and transfer the bracing, which would allow you to have a choice of lockers and decent axles, AND it is a stronger CW&P anyway IMHO.

    Just a thought

So, is this P38 diff on my 130 not the same as it came out of the factory with, or is it just that TrueTrac don't produce a diff for my model?

How many splines would I have on that diff?

    Thanks for your help Justin.

Yup, late 2002 had P38a diffs in the REAR ONLY. 24 splines. AFAICS the catalog makes no mention of a truetrac for P38a RR, or for that matter Defender without sals. Interestingly, the 2 defender 90's I have as customers BOTH have rover diffs front and rear, like a D1. It's possible that LR decided to use the P38a diff in the back of the Defenders due to it being 4 pinion, BUT it really isn't very strong in other areas Also, the axles arent interchangeable with Sals, but the drive flanges, stubs and hubs etc ARE.

A Disco centre will probably go into a P38 housing, just not the other way around.
