which ratio do i have?
which ratio do i have?
Can anyone out there help me please.
i own 05 LR defender 110 wagon. i presume i have the 1.4 ratio in my transfer case. the rave cd in the transfer section (defender manual)says the LT230SE has a ratio of 1.211:1.
I do 2500rpm at 100km/h, is this normal
I ask as my car is away, i supose the owners manual would tell me.
Any advice would help
cheers geck

You can ask www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk
They will want the VIN and Number off the Transfer Case (it is there, they can offer a pictorial to show where it is). Persons helping me with mine were astounded that the ratios could be tracked to the particular vehicle.
Why do you ask though?
If you want more power you can go to Mackay and Chip, this will help but not change the ratio. If you want to lower the revs at any given speed then the above link can help.
I drove a TD5 on the last desert trip, chipped, nitro shocks, lockers (not relevent to the trip as I run open diffs most of the time). A 130 and compared to my Tdi was exceptional.

G'day.
I'd say it's the 1.41 ratio as 2500rpm would be about right for 100kph with that. If it were the 1.222 instead, then I'd expect the rpm for 100kph to be closer to 2200rpm.

thanks to both of you.....
I have bought the 1.211 gears made by ashcroft, for the reduction in high range... Then i was looking at the workshop manual and i saw they had written LT230SE has 1.211. I always thought I had the 1.4, I just wanted to check, incase i had spent money and had already had the ratios. That would have been a big bummer!
When i get my car back i will check with ashcroft with my VIN.
Thanks again
