To sensitive readers this is a joke, I am not implying that stevo eats his young nor do I endorse anyone who does

They could even selling a used box for 20c, surely Visy would not pay that much.
    Just another "green con"?
What I cannot undesrtand is why they do not giving plastic bags claiming that it is bad for the enviroment but they sell them for any kind of use

I saw a tv doco that looked at the shopping bag alternatives and after doing all the homework on power usage, usefull life, environmental emissions during manufacture, recyclability etc the plastic shopping bag won out hands down.....its like the toyota prius.....the total manufacturing/enerygy cost/recyclability footprint is so big it should be banned
dont feel guilty about using plastic shopping bags....in the long run they are better. not my words, the findings of the doco.....wish I could remember it

But the vast majority don't want to hear that, it's all about perception and being seen to do the right thing, not actually doing the right thing.

Indeed the humble plastic bag is the least of our worries in the scheme of things.

It's just that they are conspicuous and can be railed against just like the 4wd in the city debate

I brought my green bags with me and therefore I'm more responsible than you

I went to Target a few weeks ago and bought my kids a heap of clothes. At the checkout the girl asked if I wanted plastic bags at 10c each for my purchase. I said no, put the clothes I have selected in the bags at no cost. She said she could not do that so I walked out and left everything I had just selected on the counter.
I see it as just another way to rip off the consumer. Those bags would cost a fraction of a cent each yet they want 10c each for them. A massive profit for the store.

I'm with you amtravic1, same story with the 10 cent bags for a dollar at the supermarket. Just another way for the big chains to provide less service and rip the customer off whilst pretending to be 'green' and friendly.
Same with the trolleys. Why manage them properly when money can be saved putting trolley collectors out of work and passing the responsibility for trolley management on to the customer.
My missus won't take me to the supermarket because I flatly refuse to pay for the privelige of using a trolley. I keep a pair of mini 8" bolt cutters in the car and Kayes not game to see if I'd use them.

Speaking of which, my mum's been so influenced by the green stuff that when she heard I was thinking diesel she found and printed out something about how bad diesel is for the environment. I love my mum, but I didn't read it!
