    And the problem is?

You get the money back when you return the trolley.

I've seen people steal trolleys and put them onto trains to take their shopping home. I see them take them home, empty them out, then push the trolley out into the street, a long way from the shop. I see them dumped in the local creek. I don't blame the supermarkets for wanting a token.

Aldi offer a key ring token which can be used instead of a gold coin.

(No, I don't shop at Aldi.)

I'd like to see more of the trolleys that lock their wheels when people try to take them out of the shopping centre car park.

The problem is for one it is a target against the majority not the minority ie the minority who may bugger orf with a trolley. Secondly the supermarkets make absolute squillions.......rip the farmers off and us by selling second rate produce. Thirdly.....its a freakin inconvenience......I had to lend a $1.00 to an old chap as he didnt have any gold coin on him....I had to use a basket the other day as I didnt have any gold coins. **** em I say.....so now shop at Coles where you can use their trolley without a bloody hire agreement in place,

The problem is that the management of supermarket trolleys is the responsibility of the supermarket not the customer.

Funny you should mention meat goats.....

Just come back from the Kimberley earlier this week; there I was driving from Halls Creek up to Turkey Creek, where you turn off to go to the Bungle Bungles, around the corner and theres a flock of about 30 goats on the road. Not your average feral type goat but Boer goats. Brown heads, white bodies and floppy ears. Great eating. Managed not to hit any, but if you need the start of a "meat" flock this is it.

So the people can steal them and that's the supermarket's responsibility?
