    My mate wants to buy a Disco...

    My mate has been looking around for a 4WD to take off road and had up until recently been looking at getting a Hi-Lux.

    This morning he's asked me for advice on a couple of Discovery 2s that he's found. Apparently the Discovery felt "...soooo much better than the Hi-Lux..."

    Anyway, as he is asking about a D2 and I really only know the basics about my D1, what should I tell him to look out for on the two models below? Are there known problems? Which have CDL? Will ACE and SLS be fitted on both? He wants to get AT tyres fitted - are these commonly availble for 18" rims? Etc...

    Car 1:
    2003 D2 SE V8 Auto (68,000kms)
    2004 D2 S V8 Auto (118,000kms)

    Both cars are priced at the $22-23k mark at the moment which I find slightly concerning. The 2003 SE is slightly older but with about half the miles - is this because there is something wrong and they want rid of it or is it because the 2004 S is a little bit on the expensive side?

    I'm a diesel guy sorry. Maybe have a look in the Discovery 2 Forum (quick link box at the bottom right).

    ACE and SLS were options so that is different for all vehicles. - See posts below.

    I also think fingerscrossed got general grabber AT2s (255/55R18) for his D2. Have a look in the Introductions forum, there is a thread started by him that mentions these.

    I think the 2004 has the CDL, don't think the 2003 has it.
    S = basic spec
    SE = slightly higher spec
    HSE = highest spec

    Maybe v8's a pricing low 'cause of economy.

    Ok..yep can check the D2 area....but 03 and 04 both have CDL...V8 or Diesel. Prices seem about right for V8's though surprised that the 03 SE is around same price as 04S with higher KM's....I would say the 04 is over priced. The choice for me would be the 03 SE as it would be better specced and has lower kms. Aside from that the guts of the two would be identical. SLS will be on it if it is a 7 seater and chances are ACE will only be on the SE model. HTH
