I guess that the 5 weeks was not enough
I am glad tha the "buffalo" bar save you of a serious damage and looking foward to your report.
We arrived home last Thursday evening after 5 weeks. Another great trip to Gapuwiyak and other areas around North East Arnhemland.
We will post a trip report shortly. The Defender performed perfectly...even when we had a slight altercation with a large buffalo on the Central Arnhem Road. Luckily we were able to brake sufficiently but still gave the buff a decent "nudge" . It rolled over a couple of times and limped off into the scrub. I really expected to see some serious damage, but someone must have been looking after us as we only had a slight crease on the driver's mudguard. The bullbar had taken the impact well...thank goodness. A local friend told us later we had hit the buff on the "softest part of it's body" (the rump). It's something I never want to really experience again.
As usual, the Gapuwiyak people were amazing.... wonderfully welcoming and ever so generous with their sharing of knowledge and experiences. Our few days with the Youth Forum at the Garma Festival outside Gove was fantastic...getting better each year.
But, it was especially wonderful to spend a few weeks with our daughter Sharon & her husband Alfred and their assorted family of orphaned animals. What a different life they live compared to us here in the hustle and bustle of the city. We hardly heard a news bulletin while we were there ...and didn't miss it one bit.

Welcome back, Erich and Sheila.
I am looking forward to your trip report - they are always interesting! Glad you weren't hurt with the buffalo - that could have been much more serious!
Willem
Thanks Willem, The Buffalo incident wasn't something I'd like to experience again.
Everything just seemed to happen in "slow motion" once my reflexes clicked in.... and when the impact actually happened, we really thought the damage to the car would be severe our trip would have ended there and then.
We were amazed the damage was so little, I spent so much time looking underneath and thinking...'there must be more than just a slight crinkle in the mudguard'. Once we got to Sharon & Alfred's, I gave the car a thorough check and all was OK.
Anyhow, we had a brilliant time up there.
Welcome back - got any plans to be up this way?

G'day John,
Unfortunately, not for the next few weeks. My sister & her family are heading up to Delta Downs for a month shortly, so we are restricted to base to look after my mum.
Maybe towards the end of October we will get out there (hopefully). In November it will have been 12 months since we were at Elong, so we definitely need to get out there to check up & see if all is OK.
Will let you know when, and maybe catch up if it's convenient.
Cheers, Erich
