What a load of bullocks, another way to raise money.
...and trying the reduce the fatalities of riders in Qld. Among few ideas have this one on mind:
Other options being considered include a minimum clothing standard for riders, and electronic devices so motorcyclists can be identified by speed cameras.
If all the drivers out there have learned to ride and have a motorcicle for couple of years before drive a car I can bet that the road toll will be less.
The news are HERE
What a load of bullocks, another way to raise money.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
This government cant win a trick with its decisions lately!
I just read Victoria (I think?) spent $500 000 working out that front number plates were not a goer and let out a sigh of relief.... and then this.
The place is turning into a nanny state. I feel so lucky that the government is taking responsibility for my well-being on the road!!!
Now it looks like the govt. is not going to let me have one light beer during a ride with my mate, tell me what to wear whist riding and my bike has to somehow have an e-toll stuck on and now some device to let them ID me for the bloody revenue cameras.
I wish there were more riders in positions of power!
I've been riding since I was about 8y.o. (Go the Honda Z50!) and have ridden and held an open bike licence for years.
Nanny state and all that, but seriously, they need to something.
The fact the QLD Govt. probably helped cause the mess doesn't help either.
But they shouldn't look at revenue raising, or clothing or booze limits.
That said, if you do stuff like ride a road bike on the open road with thongs and no gloves - you are a dickhead! (Yes, I've done it).
The fatality rate on bikes has gone up about 200% in the last few years.
What they should be looking at is statistics from the accidents and fatalities recorded,
i.e. length of time licensed, experience, how long and under what system they got their licence, etc
I bet a fair few are inexperienced/young and or QRide licenced.
I had a bit to do with Q-Ride inception and it's a joke. I know they have changed the regulations and have LAMS crap etc., but there are many people licenced to ride that are incompetent, unskilled and dangerous (as there are with cars).
For the first few years of Q-Ride it was possible (if you'd had a car licence fr 3 years), to have no experience on a bike, and in one day be licenced to ride Hyabusa 1300cc flying machine - and it happened - and I've seen it done!
That's a recipe for disaster that is now being seen.
The Ugly Duckling-
03 Defender Xtreme, now reduced by 30%.
a master of invisibleness.
I do not think that rules are going to change the behaviour of this individuals.
IMO we do not need new rules until the authorities are able to enforce the old ones
I haven't ridden a bike in more years than I care to remember and never held a licence anyway, but I'm sure I could do things a bit more sensibly than some of the loonies I've witnessed lately.
The first was when I joined a dual carriage way near me and pausing in the centre to check left that nothing was coming, being fully aware of the small rise to my left which vehicles would suddenly appear over, nothing coming so into the right hand lane I went intending to then check my rear vision and nearside mirrors and if it was clear, indicate and move to the left lane as I've always done.
Whoooosh and an idiot went past me on the left at least 50 kay over the 80 limit, sticking his fingers up at me at the same time.
What a tosser, there was no way I could possibly see him over the slight rise to my left or take into account the excessive speed he was doing and not pull out, so why did he feel it was my fault for pulling out in front of him?
The second incident was on a 70kph limit coast road and every one is doing approx. the limit when roaring past us is another bike riding turkey with his left hand on his thigh, young floosie on the back seat and down the wrong side of the road he went around the keep left signs just prior to a turning where any body coming out would normally only chuck a quick look to the right before pulling out and he would have been a gonna!
No amount of extra training or additional licensing will make up for this type of stupidity but will only serve to provide yet more revenue to inept governments.
Bike riders have always taken risks and that's part of the thrill of riding I always thought, but the sheer total unthinking stupidity of some of the things I see are so mad it's no wonder they're killing themselves quicker than ever.
I wish they wouldn't do it as it makes the old ticker pound a bit too much these days!
