Totally agree Pat, but you'd be in the minority of people who own LPG vehicles IME. 99% just fill it with gas and drive, and we get to see them only when they have a problem OR it gets serviced, which is not always on time. just because the oil still LOOKS clean doesn't mean everything else like plugs, leads, filters etc etc will last forever:mad:Quote:

I should mention of course that personal preference comes down to it too. I drove a 96 Disco V8 today and was impressed with its smoothness and power delivery, VERY nice indeed. BUT, i know I cannot live with the fuel usage, and having gone down the LPG path before im not going through that again.
Dad has a V8 D2, anda V8 county, and I do love the engine. If the disco was going to be a plaything, i'd go gas. But it will be a family car / tourer / off roader, so diesel will be the go for me.
After holidays the search will begin in earnest :D

My disco was just a tourer,I had sill tanks so I didn't loose cargo space.What really needs to be done is for tanks to be made rectangular shaped so you get more volumn for a given space as range is always the biggest drawback. Pat

Talking to a bloke recently he reakoned a manual was the only way to go as the auto's let go of 4th gear. That wasn't something that i'd heard of before, and a couple of vehicles I had my eye on were autos. any truth in it?

Good luck in the search and good choice on the Diesel. I had V8's all my life, and before the D2 (TD5), a D1 V8 on gas. Dieso is the go for Disco's for all the reasons mentioned.
I don't understand that comment, the tax on petrol at present is 38cpl (as far as I understand) if $0.38 is added to the price of LPG that still brings it up to only around $0.90/L about $0.20-$0.30/l less.Quote:

Re-diesel Vs LPG when the economy was good the price of Diesel was around 3 times more that the price of LPG. You would have to get triple the k/L to make diesel more economical than LPG. Even today the price of diesel is twice the price of LPG and you don't get double the distance out of diesel.
The other statements as well as the loss of load space are true, unless you add sill tanks to the disco for the petrol and replace the original disco tank with the LPG tanks. I bought a pair of 2nd hand sill tanks for my RRc at the Sydney Expo for $40.

Be aware that with a Diesel, your services come up very quickly.
Especially if you're good, and do it every 5000km.
Diesel would still be my preference. The one thing I hate about taking the Rangie on holidays, is the lack of LPG in remote areas, so in effect, you're just carting aroung a great steel tank, wasting space.
